REFORMA

Established in 1971 as an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), it supports library and Informational professionals committed to improving library and information services to Spanish speakers and Latinos.

REFORMA Goals

To promote the implementation, advancement, and improvement of library and information services to Latinos and the Spanish-speaking through training, networking, mentorship, financing, and sharing of information and ideas.

Language Rights

REFORMA believes everyone has the right to accurate, accessible, and equitable information resources in their primary language; Including access to Spanish-language library collections.

Recruitment and Retention of Bilingual and Multicultural Library Personnel

REFORMA promotes the hiring of diverse individuals, encouraging meaningful inclusion at all levels of library and information organizations, and encourages members to represent and participate in the local and national discussion on library and information services.

Library Services

REFORMA promotes library services that meet the needs of the Latino community, public awareness of Library services among the Latino community, and the fostering of community partnerships.

Networking and Mentorship

REFORMA encourages collaboration with other professional organizations, and provides members access to an extended network of dedicated Library and informational professionals and personnel.

Scholarships

REFORMA awards many scholarships to library school students who express interest in working with Latinos.

REFORMA Nevada

According to the 2022 Census 30.3% of Nevada’s population identified as Latino/Hispanic. We believe a local REFORMA chapter would be an invaluable resource to Library and Information professionals who serve Latinos and Spanish speakers in this great state.

We plan to work towards REFORMA Nationals goals at the local level, we will promote the implementation, advancement, and improvement of library and information services to Latinos and Spanish speakers through training, networking, mentorship, and community engagement.
