DARE COUNTY | The Outer Banks Running Club will hold its fourth annual Sweetheart 8K and one-mile run/walk at 9 a.m. Feb. 13 .
The event will start and finish near the George Washington Creef Memorial Park by the lighthouse in downtown Manteo.
Proceeds will benefit the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church food pantry. Participants can contribute canned and dry goods on the morning of the race.
The running club will also be collecting used shoes for One World Running, an international program. Contributors of food and/or shoes will be entered into a free raffle drawing for door prizes.

Currituck County
Public input replica clothing needed on gypsy moth
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Plant Industry Division will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Currituck County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension.
The meeting is to permit the department's staff to provide information on a gypsy moth infestation in the area, review treatment alternatives, and receive input.

Basic accounting workshop offered
A basic accounting workshop for nonprofits is being offered. Accounting Boot Camp 101 : A Workshop on Nonprofit Financial Management will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 25 at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church in Manteo.
The Outer Banks Community Foundation will reimburse registration fees for participants from nonprofits in Dare, Ocracoke and Corolla. Registration is $10 for members and $50 for nonmembers of the N.C. Center for Nonprofits.
The session is limited to the first 50 who register, and reimbursements are limited to two participants per organization.

Residential rain garden workshop
The Dare County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will offer a certification workshop on residential rain gardens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday.

Aquarium HONORS its volunteers
The staff and management of the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island held a barbecue dinner and white elephant Christmas gift exchange last month to recognize its volunteers for their contributions.
Recognized as Volunteer of the Year was Joyce Sheils . Dean Morris and Steve Brown were honored as Dive Volunteers of the Year.
